Indication bandage
The snake bite bandage (also called a pressure immobilization bandage) is a specialized first aid tool used to slow the spread of venom after a snake bite, particularly from elapids (e.g., cobras, taipans, and Australian venomous snakes). It is NOT a tourniquet—its purpose is to apply firm, even pressure without cutting off blood flow.
Pressure Application – The elastic bandage is wrapped tightly (but not too tight) over the bite site and along the affected limb to reduce lymphatic drainage, delaying venom movement.
Immobilization – The bandage helps keep the limb still, as movement can speed up venom circulation.
Buys Time – This method does not neutralize venom but helps extend the window for medical treatment.

Not for: Viper bites (e.g., rattlesnakes, adders), where pressure may worsen tissue damage.
Keep the victim calm (movement spreads venom faster).
Wrap from the bite site upward, covering the entire limb.
Apply firm pressure (similar to a sprain bandage).
Splint the limb if possible to restrict movement.
Seek emergency medical help immediately.
Critical in remote areas where antivenom may take hours to reach.
